INTEREST GROUP – PADDLING


GROUP LEADER(S) – Lewis Williams

WHAT WE DO - Probus Paddlers is a group for experienced paddlers who want to gather casually each week to paddle and connect with others who love canoeing and kayaking in nature.

WHEN WE MEET – Most Mondays 10:00- 12 noon. Dates: We will meet TWICE each month from May-September. June 5, 26,  July 3, 17, Aug 7, 28 and Sept 18, 25.

WHERE WE MEET Mostly in the waterways of Durham Region. Participants are to arrange their own transportation. Transportation will not be provided.

WHAT WE PAY – Sometimes, we pay for parking at waterside parks.

HOW MANY MEMBERS – 8 Members maximum 

WHAT REQUIREMENTS – Members must have their own properly fitting, personal PFD/life jacket, paddle, whistle, water bottle, snacks ( eg granola bar), clothes appropriate for the weather, small knapsack, water proof bag for valuables, footwear that can get wet, sun glasses, sun hat, sunscreen, bug repellant, waterproof camera, and be able to swim comfortably 100 metres (4 lengths of most municipal pools)

If you do not have a Canoe/kayak we are not providing boats. You can perhaps paddle with someone in a tandem canoe but this is not a guarantee on any given week. You can be on a list of those needing a tandem canoe partner and we’ll see if there are any openings. Some people will choose to paddle solo.  

No instruction will be provided.

legal requirements- spare paddle, bailing bucket, 15m rescue throw rope, whistle.

Covid Safety Precautions - Bring your own hand sanitizer and mask, if you feel it’s appropriate. Full vaccination status is requested.
