PROBUS Club of Whitby-Brooklin
What happens to the 'stuff' you put into your Blue Bin?
The Durham York Energy Centre can answer this question and is a short drive from Whitby/Brooklin.
The DYEC is a waste management facility that produces energy from the combustion of garbage. The DYEC safely processes 140,000 tonnes per year of residential garbage that remains after maximizing waste diversion programs – reducing, reusing, recycling and composting – in Durham and York Regions. The DYEC is operated by Covanta.
The DYEC tour is roughly an hour and a half; the route requires light walking, some stairs and catwalks with open grating, and waste odours in the pit area. With that in mind, there are some requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and all guests must wear the following entering the plant :
• Long sleeves
• Long pants
• Safety glasses (available on site)
• Hard hats (available on site)
• Gloves (available on site)
• CSA-approved safety footwear (Preferably)
The cost is $5. You can pay by Master Card or Visa.
Sorry there are no guests for this event.
